Donnerstag, der Achtundzwanzigste Oktober - Another Lunar Eclipse
One evening, a tripod, 10x25 binoculars, and 181 pictures later, I bring my own recap of the
Lunar Eclipse. (1MB Animated GIF) The first half was slightly
hindered by the clouds, which is most evident in the middle where the image is the most blurry. It would
also have helped to have a camera mounted lens, among other things, but it worked out great as-is.
Sonntag, der Vierundzwanzigste Oktober - Nichts Passiert
In the middle of another Calvin and Hobbes renaissance of mine, I'm required to write a lot more to fill the
space which the comic frame takes on the left. I seem to have been taking more pictures as of late, as the
Photographie page is filling up nicely. I got a bunch of shots from the
Air Show in Houston a few weeks ago so expect those pretty soon. A year and a half later, I also added the
pictures from the McDonald Observatory in West Texas. I've been looking to move deeper into amateur
photography, adding filters and lenses to make the pictures better. Unfortunately the automagic shutter
speed and f/stop on my Sony DSC-P8 are anything but magic for a number of situations. Another disappointment
is the death of 3 CCD sensors after about 4000 pictures.
Another moment for writer's block. More to come. ... Hours pass ... Might post some airshow pictures soon.
Success!

Sonntag, der Neunzehnte September - Talk like a Pirate Day
ARRRR, Our Day for the plunder of language goes through a bit of a keelhauling on this Sunday.
More ARRRRing was abound last year on the Friday. Back to me Grog, ARRRR....

Sonntag, der Neunundzwanzigte Sextilis - Full moon
I just took that picture of the full moon with the assistance of my trusty little binoculars. I
took a couple of pictures to
compare the 3x optical zoom of
the camera with the pocket-sized binoculars I have. I think it would be pretty neat if I can find some
heavy duty field marshall binoculars to take more pictures. I also took several pictures of an
Oil Rig I visited during the break. More to follow on the photographie
page.
Summer vacation ends tonight, prompting this third 29th post in a row. I decided driving a few thousand
kilometers would wear me out enough to go back to classes this time. It seems to have worked for now,
but the scorpions look hungry so I'll be left to hunt for bugs soon. I'd probably write more, maybe even
something about dreadlocks and polka-dots but I've got an empty refrigerator and that's quite a bit more
important now.
Donnerstag, der Neunundzwanzigte Quintilis - Mid Summer
Arrrr, two twenty-ninth's in a row, I post, very odd. The adkill counter is about to roll past 10 Million
pretty soon. (9978799 at this moment, **Palindrome!**) The British based Piracy Watch Center has summed
that this year you're more likely to get killed during a pirate attack than years past. The
BBC Article says they're using simple
guns and knives, not a razor sharp cutlass or cannons. The sound like a bunch of street gangs that got kicked
out to the sea if you ask me.
Scorpion news: Earl is female! Over the 4th of Quintilis weekend, I got a couple more scorpions.
Both of which are smaller than Earl, but with much longer tails. With this sort of conclusive evidence,
all references to Earl as a he shal be dubbed to she. The name Earl stands, without question. The names
for these other two haven't been decided, and I'm not sure what they should be, since they still seem to
be pretty reclusive when compared to Earl. The great stress of living under a rock, let me tell you.
Dienstag, der Neunundzwanzigte Juni
What do we have to say about today? Not really anything special, just time for another
update. I think it's safe to say the CSS change went over rather well, converting the pages
nothing significant, and I even got to keep the same look. The fantastic mod_rewrite is working
fabulously as always to terrorize people who decide to img src my pictures. It became annoying
enough for me to actually remove a picture of a Mercedes AMG speedometer nearing 300km/hr. If
you suspect you're not seeing the right image, try reloading the page in question.
Those thousands of you looking for this
picture of my good
friend Sara, may also want to visit her
website. It's
quite a surprise for me to have a picture I took as the 5th image for the search "sara" on images.google.com.
As for plugging websites today, I'll throw
Nitekry's site
into the fray as well, since he removed his 'under construction' logo.
Scorpion news: Mom has gone out of her way and captured another scorpion for me. Hopefully Earl will
get along with this one, and not eat it when he gets hungry. I'll probably have even more scorpion
stuff to write about after this. Hopefully I'll end up with a horde, and can start giving them out to
friends eventually. They make excellent pets, as you can read from my stories. No barking, they
don't need much food, can be forgotten for weeks - months. The best feature of all, they'll survive a nuclear
war!
It being summer time in the northern hemisphere means it's only logical for me to go out and buy a new
felt hat! Here's a picture of my current
fedora lineup with the
newest member, the Akubra Federation in gray, on the right. After a bit of searching, I've discovered
that I would probably wear my Straw fedora more if I had a seersucker suit.
Samstag, der Zweiundzwanzigte Mai - Big changes
Well, I say big changes, but not really anything you'll notice without looking at the source.
I finally broke down and decided XHTML and CSS was the right thing to do, and I'm rather impressed
how much code I cleaned out by ousting the tables. Well, back to converting this page. I'll probably
write more when the page is done.
Things you can probably expect sometime soon. Quake page, more pictures, ?????. Only tomorrow
knows!
At the very least you can read a LOT about
Earl the Scorpion. I
figured it was about time to write a full page on him since he's that amusing. I'd setup
a webcam for him, but I think it would be fairly pointless with the amount that he sleeps.
Dienstag der Sechste April - Life with Scorpions
On the first night of spring break this year, I was stung by a scorpion three times in my bed at 3am.
Normally, my wrath would have come down like the Hammer of Thor, but I suppose the neurotoxins had
something to say about the wrath, and I only captured the transgressor. By the end of the week
I had decided scorpion venom wasn't very bad, and I could raise a colony of these guys as recommended
by a friend back in my scorpion killing days. (See
2002) Shortly after the
decision to keep him, he was given the name Earl. Now he resides in a terrarium with an unnamed scorpion
a beetle and a couple of grasshoppers for food. Now after you can see him acting as a
backpack on a soldier or
spread out
in his original container. More pictures will follow, including ones of the tiny unnamed scorpion who
is pictured in the icon of this post.
Sonntag, Februar 29, 2004 - Leap Day!
Here's our extra day we get for saving up on the past 4 years. Not much on the way of news today. Twas
a rainy sunny day with a dash of wind. Google has screwed up it's rankings of ARRRR, and inktomi is
slightly better than it used to be, but still not correct. I guess the Lego Pirate head is more along
the theme of the future here. Violent lego stills and the other dynamic acts which can be achieved
through legos. I've been playing a lot of Contra III this semester, as it is a masterpiece. I
suppose that was schizophrenic enough for an update on a day that happens once in 4 years, tschau.
Donnerstag, Januar 22, 2004
Another year, another routine. Classes this year don't start until 11:30 or 2:20, which is the latest
I've ever had. Currently I've been waking up around 8 for this feat which is quite impressive
considering last week I was going to bed at 6. I'm going to have to work on my lunch habits, as
classes don't dismiss until after 5 on most days. I'll either leave starving to death, or ready
to make dinner. If anyone has any Recipe ideas, I'm always looking for new stuff to cook at home
so send them my way.
Sometime a couple of months ago someone told me to add xads.offeroptimizer.com to the adkill.
Apparently it nicely hijacks windows among other things. For a while there were only about 10
resources on the subject one of which was my hosts file, which dominated my search refers.
I find it quite odd that the
29th most popular site on the net allows me to be in the to 20 sources of information. Even odder
enough their website seems to provide a smidgen of information now, and even tells you to download
an adblocker from download.com. Their front page was written in MS word, so there clearly isn't much
of a priority for a professional public appearance. Just another day in the ads of the net, these
things are probably worse than a STD.
I've noticed now that the searches for it have moved along to be from offeroptimizer.service.com
which leads me to belive companies related to offeroptimizer needs to be marooned. Along those lines
I suppose maroonings would be a good topic for an article here, so check back later. Last, but
not least,
Hannah drew a hook-handed, peg-legged pirate
saying ARRRR.com during her school bound boredom.
